This
section is devoted to thoughts, commentaries and writings, either from
me or guest contributors who have something to say, and which reflect
or comment upon issues and ideas that parallel the underlying philosophy
of Lightscape Photography and its stated goals and mission. Have something
on your mind?
Submit it and maybe I’ll post it here.
Light, as we all know, is the fundamental ingredient in photography. It
defines and illuminates our subject matter, and is necessary in order
for us to capture an image onto sensor or film. Light reveals that which
may be hidden, obscured, or in the shadows, and makes vision possible.
Without it, we are literally left in the dark.
On a more esoteric level, light and creation go hand in hand, where it
can signify either the act of, or the force behind creation itself. One
can readily imagine the Universe-the entire manifest realm, bursting into
existence in a blazing cosmic flash that brought time, space and thought
into being.
On a human scale, light is a fiery beacon that acts as our guide, illuminating
the way to Truth, Honour and Justice.
The word scape can apply to both the physical manifestation of a scene
and the mental realm of the mind as well.
Taken together then, Lightscape is the name chosen to best represent my
photographic vision and purpose:
To search out those chance moments, and through poignant imagery,
give expression and offer glimpses into and of our world, and all its
plentitude. To reveal the fundamental essence and nature of our existence,
in this time and place, and in a manner that defines and reveals the fundamental
aspects of the True, the Good and the Beautiful, as found in nature, culture
and self.
